Orange

I.
/ˈɒrɪndʒ/ (say 'orinj)

noun
a European princely family, originating in the medieval French principality of Orange and ruling in the Netherlands since the late 16th century (when William, Count of Nassau and Prince of Orange, as the holder of lands in the Netherlands, led the revolt against Spain to create the Dutch republic); ruled first as stadtholders of the principal provinces of the Dutch republic, then from 1815 as the royal family of the Kingdom of the Netherlands; William III, Prince of Orange, became King William III of Great Britain 1688–1702.
Also, Orange-Nassau.
II.
/ˈɒrɪndʒ/ (say 'orinj)

noun
a city in eastern central NSW, north-west of Bathurst; apple-growing area.
{named by Surveyor General Thomas Mitchell after the Prince of Orange (see Orange1) with whom he had been associated during the Peninsular War}
Orange lies in territory traditionally inhabited by the Wiradjuri people. Surveyor John Oxley camped in the area in 1817–18, and a track from Bathurst west through the future town site opened in 1823. A village reserve was marked out in 1829 and the first inn, the Brickmakers' Arms, opened in 1832. Small farms began in the 1850s. The discovery of copper in the Canobolas Range and gold finds at Ophir and elsewhere led to the growth of the township, which by the 1860s was the service centre for the surrounding wheat and sheep district. The poet AB `Banjo' Paterson was born nearby in 1864. Fruit growing (apples, cherries, pears, and peaches) became an important industry from the 1880s, and from the 1980s the district has also been known for winegrowing. It also has a manufacturing industry, particularly in whitegoods.
